Midsummer is here!! Maple League action is on a small break, so I decided to catch up with a few of the stars of the league and ask some important questions. Here is what Jim Barry of the Vantaa TAFT had to say.
Jim Barry’s Route to the Maple League
I started paying football when I was 6. I was recruited to play in high school at Poly Prep (Brooklyn, NY). I played at Susquehanna for four years and I knew I wanted to play after college, the question was where? I played in The National Bowl Game in Miami, FL and was introduced to coaches and agents who gave me many outlets to play after college. I talked to a few teams in Europe and Australia, but when TAFT reached out to me, I took the opportunity.
Perfect: How do you like it in Finland?
Barry: I love it here. TAFT set all imports up really well. I feel really comfortable with TAFT and in the country. We have a great group of guys.
Perfect: How do you like the Finnish People?
Barry: The Finnish people are a bit shy, but when they get to know you, they’re very helpful and generous people and great to be around!
Perfect: What is your go to meal in Finland?
Barry: My go to meal in Finland is salmon. It’s so fresh and well prepared here.
Perfect: What are your midsummer plans?
Barry: Me and some teammates are going to road trip through Europe. We’re not sure where we’re going, but we’re just going to wing it.
Perfect: What do you see as the end result for you guys this season?
Barry: I see us finishing with a winning season. It’s been a rough start, but I know my teammates have it in them to finish strong.
Perfect: Individually how do you feel about your performance so far?
Barry: Thus far, I’ve performed pretty well. I have been playing faster and taking more chances on the field and they’ve been paying off.
Perfect: What changes if any do you guys need to make to improve?
Barry: We need to put all 4 quarters together. We seem to struggle in one or two quarters and it winds up being our downfall
Perfect: Can you name the best 5 players in the Maple League?
Barry: The best players in the league in no order are:
Micah Brown (Roosters),
Kemani Jones (Butchers),
Joel Sisler (TAFT),
Tim Thomas (Crocs),
Perfect: So what’s next for you after the season?
Barry: After the season I’ll return home. I have some plans for work when I get there and I’ll continue training. I would love to continue to play football, so I’ll be in talks with whichever team has interest
