Turku Trojans Look for First Win Against Tampere Saints

This Saturday, the Tampere Saints (2-6) are trying start a win streak at the expense of the Turku Trojans (0-8) in week 12 of Maple League play. The last time these two teams met, the Saints won 35-21 for their first win of the season. The Trojans have yet to win a game this season and are looking to upset the Saints this weekend. Both teams have good reasons to play their best to win this game.

TAMPERE SAINTS KEYS TO WIN

On paper, the Saints are the better team in this matchup. But the game is won on the field, so they will need to prove it to everyone. The first key for the Saints is to get quarterback Raleigh Yeldell involved in the run game. Yeldell is an explosive runner and makes the entire Saints offense better when making plays with his feet. Using his running ability makes things easier for him in the passing game, which will only help the Saints offense in this game. On the defensive side of the ball, the Saints must play bend-but-don’t-break defense. The Trojans offense has been getting better all season, but as long as the Saints make them work for everything, it will be difficult for the Trojans to score enough to win. The last key for the Saints is creating big plays on either offense or defense. Big catches by receivers Ilari Laine and Henri Laine, long runs by running back Juzz Tiny, or turnovers created by the defense will keep momentum on the side of the Saints to secure a win.

TURKU TROJANS KEYS TO WIN

The Trojans have an uphill battle against a more talented team this week. The first thing they must do is set the tempo of the game by establishing the run game. The Trojans need to lean on Juice Quezada and create ways to get him running downhill against a very soft defense in the Saints. This will make the play-action much more effective for quarterback Zach Bartlow and his receiving corps. On the defensive side of the ball, the Trojans must contain Raleigh Yeldell and force him to become a pure passer. Yeldell has shown that if he has no running escape paths, he will make errors when throwing the ball. The Trojans need to make him an error prone quarterback during this game. The final thing the Trojans need to accomplish is winning field position through special teams. Field Goals, kickoffs, kickoff returns, punts, and punt returns all need to place the Trojans in a good position while placing the Saints in negative situations.

PERFECT PERVIS PREDICTION

Realistically, this might be the Trojans last chance to win a Maple League game. With that type of pride at stake, I expect the Trojans to pull out all the stops this week against the Saints. But all those stops will not change the outcome of this game. I’m predicting the Tampere Saints to win, 42-28
