Hämeenlinna Huskies Visit Wasa Royals in Week 6 Showdown

The undefeated Hämeenlinna Huskies (3-0) will be travelling to Vaasa to play the Wasa Royals (2-1) on Saturday in the Maple League. The Royals are coming off an embarrassing lost to the Helsinki Roosters before last week’s bye. The Huskies are on a quick turnaround after defeating the Turku Trojans on Monday. This game could eventually have playoff seeding implications if these two teams play to their predicted potentials the entire season.  On paper this game leans towards the Huskies as they have the top offense and second ranked defense in the Maple League, compared to the royals who rank in the middle of both categories. But as the saying goes, the game is played on the field. . .

The Huskies boast a very large roster and must use that entire roster against a well-rested Royals team. Defensively, the Huskies defensive lineman James Perrineau, Juha Yli-Arvela, and Jani Lindqvist will make the difference in stopping the Royals run game and pressuring quarterback Justin Sottilare in the pass game. On the offensive side of the ball, Stan Bedwell’s air raid must be consistent. The Huskies offense is successful when the screen game and big third down passes are completed with regularity. Last week that was not the case, so the Huskies must make sure that doesn’t happen this weekend. The game changer for the Huskies will be keeping Roman Runner involved in the game. He has proven to this point to be the go-to-guy for them and will need to continue to be so in this matchup.

  • DEFENSIVE LINE STOP RUN AND PRESSURE QB

  • AIR RAID GO BOMBS AWAY

  • GET ROMAN RUNNER THE BALL

The Royals had a bye week and the Huskies are making a quick turnaround travelling trip. They must use this to their advantage in Vaasa and fatigue the Huskies offense early in this game. There is a noticeable difference in the Huskies 2nd string offense that can work in favor of the Royals. Offensively, quarterback Justin Sottilare needs to be given the freedom to sling the ball. The Huskies front six is deep and will focus on stopping the Royals run game, so the passing game must step up. The biggest key is RJ Long. He has proven that no matter what he will make big plays and get yards. But in this game, he needs to get in the END ZONE! Whether it’s on a pass or a run, RJ Long need to score for the Royals to win this game.

  • USE SCHEDULE TO FATIGUE HUSKIES OFFENSE

  • SET JUSTIN SOTTILARE FREE

  • GET RJ LONG IN THE END ZONE

PERFECT PERVIS PREDICTION

I can honestly see this game going either way, depending on which team makes the biggest plays at the right times. The Huskies have not played a team near their talent level yet, so it’s hard to determine how they will respond to the Royals team. The Royals showed against the Roosters two weeks ago that they are a formidable opponent but lacked the championship details to win that game. So in the spirit of pure guessing, I’m predicting the Royals win, 36-34.
